Toddlers and Tiaras

I was in complete shock when I first watched this show. Actually, I still am in complete shock. If you know nothing about TLC's Toddlers and Tiaras then you are lucky. This show is one of the worst shows anyone could come up with.

What is it?

It's a reality show about toddlers and young kids who range from all young ages. They compete in pageants [obviously] to win money and other prizes. It shows families preparing for pageants and the struggles they go through preparing their child for the pageants.

Why did I watch it?

Honestly, I could of flipped the channel. But I was so overwhelmed by the crap I was seeing. Little girls with fake tans, fake teeth, their mothers shaving their legs. The temper tantrums, the fits, the attitude. All of it was so mind boggling I couldn't stop watching. I was trying to analayze why any mother would want their child to do this. Why would you want your child to be fake? To have a fake tan with fake teeth. Some of these girls look like 16 year olds in 4 year old bodies. It's scary, its disgusting. I can't believe it.

I thought we were supposed to teach children that beauty is real. Its on the inside, not on the out. Why do we have to have fake teeth? Fake tans? Why can't it be a real beauty pageant? Why is it so fake? I don't get it. We go against how we were taught to parent. This isnt a Beauty Pageant... In my opinion its perverted, just plain wrong.

I watched an episode where one contestant dresses up like Dolly Parton. Her mother was proud to put fake breasts and a fake butt on her child to enhance her child. She said the judges loved it and that it got a lot of attention. Just because Dolly got fake boobs and a butt doesn't mean its right to dress up a little girl in stuff like that. I think that is way too young of an age to expose your child to. I posted a video of the clip of her trying it on.

So what I'm really trying to say is, why would you tell your daughter that shes beautiful then make her wear fake teeth to get good ratings? And if you don't want a bratty kid then why would you let them be a brat? How are these parents not embarrassed or ashamed of how their child is acting on television? A lot of people watch this show, obviously because it is still running. I think it should be shut down. It was a terrible idea.
